This job is something that most of us do not see very often. Worm famers as the name suggests farm worms. Actually, these guys make use of earthworms to make compost out of organic materials such as leftover food scraps. The more exact term will be vermicomposting.
Job scope
It simply involves mixing some organic matter with earthworms and keep them in a container. The earthworms overtime will ingest these scraps and pass them out as worm casts. These worm casts are excellent fertiliser, a secret farmers have known for years. By putting them in containers with ideal moisture levels and temperature, speeds up nature.
The fertiliser produced from such process is totally chemical free, unlike most garden fertiliser. Hence, it does not pollute the environment. A great way to start conserving the environment.
What do i need for the job?
- You will need space, lots of space to begin work. Most people do this in their backyard or gardens.
- You will also need passion and commitment. Currently, there is no big demand for such a product, especially in Singapore, so it will not make you rich. However, the demand and market is likely to grow in the future, so who knows?
Further resources
There are tons of resources available online, from websites of worm farms and even step by step instructions on how to get started. So people start by Google worm farming. |
