MST is just around the corner, yet participants from different schools and SP Environment Club members come together to join us in this very first biofuel plant visit we had organised.
To start off the tour we had last Saturday, we boarded a chartered bus that was running on bio-diesel, fuelled by Alpha Biofuels. We were warmly welcomed by Jaimie and Alvin, the project managers of Alpha Biofuels upon arriving at the plant.
The participants were then split into 2 groups, one to give a short presentation on the importance of using renewable technologies, and how the making of biodiesel will not affect the feedstock and land and the steps in detail on how to make biodiesel. The other group would then attend a hands-on demo session whereby participants would go through and understand the whole process of the production of biofuels.
Through this visit, we have learnt that Alpha Biofuels collects waste oil from all F&B companies and sometimes in neighbourhood community centres. This serves as a real good example for Singaporeans to go green. In future, we hope to organise more of such field trips to get more members exposed to these renewable technologies.
