Ria, who loves nature and always spend her time in the wild places in Singapore, mainly mangroves and shores. Been a volunteer in Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, she started to fall in love in nature and also starts to do nature guiding and nature awareness peogrammes at other wild places in Singapore.

How did you get started in nature? What makes you start it?
My first real taste of wild nature in Singapore was as volunteer guide at Sungei Buloh. I was so entranced by Buloh that I started a personal online journal of my visits there (sadly discontinued due to distractions). Through the volunteers and people at Buloh, I heard about Chek Jawa, about 6 months before it was due to be reclaimed. I visited Chek Jawa and fell under her spell. From then on, I got involved more extensively in guiding and other nature awareness programmes to do with Chek Jawa. And after Chek Jawa, I got more and more involved with other nature work.
What makes you start wildsingapore.com?
I first started wildsingapore.com as a companion website to the Chek Jawa guidebook. To contain all the wonderful photos and information that I just couldn't squeeze into the guidebook. Since then, it has grown to contain lots more of the wild places, wild activities and wild people that I have come across.

Did you wrote any books?

I wrote the Chek Jawa Guidebook with Alan Yeo, the Southern Shores guidesheet with Loh Tse Lynn and I also put up a lot of information about our common marine life on the wild fact sheets on wildsingapore.

What are your visitors statistics on wildsingapore.com?

The wildsingapore resources comprises three blogs and one website. The wildsingapore news blog is updated daily with latest blog entries and news. It gets about 400-600 unique visitors a day. The wildsingapore happenings blog is updated weekly with events. It gets about 100-200 unique vistors a day. The wild shores of singapore blog is for my thoughts about our shores. It gets about 200-500 unique visitors a day. The wildsingapore website is for static pages that are ocassionally updated. It gets about 100-200 unique visitors a day.

What is wildsingapore.com all about?
My hope is that wildsingapore.com can be a one-stop location for those who want to learn about our wild places; and do more for them. The theme of the website is simple: One person CAN make a difference! Simply EXPLOREEXPRESSACT!

Any special creature you like in the shores you visit? Why?
All creatures and plants on the shores are fascinating. No creature or plant exists alone. Each is a part of an ecosystem and plays an important role. This is why I don't have a favourite or consider any one more special than the next. We need to realise the interconnections among the creatures on the shores. But more importantly, how WE are connected too, to nature and natural processes.
