i want to be like a rock in the river of life, not a water droplet.
the water droplet flows along with the river stream, washed along with swift current, caught up in the little anxieties and worries of life too busy to appreciate the meander and waterfalls of the river course. too fixated on the small things in life (maybe jostling for space/recognition with other water droplets) to notice the majestic trees, the little gazelle, the chirping of birds and the call of varieties of wild animals on the sides of the river. when it comes to the end of its journey, it is forgotten, because it was just another drop of water in the great wide ocean.
the rock in the river bed is different. Craggy and hard at first, it flows along the river, but slower, slow enough to appreciate and admire Mother Natures' beautiful scenery. it is steady, and is not easily pulled along with the crowd, simply moving along the riverbed. it changes the course of the river. not immediately, but bump, by bump after continous rock behind it, it widens the river, exaggerating the curves and turns. Enlarging the drop pool of the waterfall, carving out the ox- bow lake of a country river. it changes lifes course. last of all, it changes itself, serving a purpose. slowly, the rock wears thin along the riverbed, becoming smoother and smaller, parts of it grinded to sediment on the riverbed. soon, all that remains will be a stone, or even pebble. at the end of its journey, it is small, but content to have fulfilled its destiny in life and very happy, thank you to remain in the bottom of the ocean.
