Switch Off, Not Standby PDF Print E-mail

Don't press that power button on the remote!

The next time you decide to turn off that television or DVD player with your remote, think twice; you may well be contributing unknowingly to your electrical bill.

Vampire power, or the power consumed by electrical devices on standby mode usually takes up a modest amount of power. However, with several of these devices scattered around the home, the amount quickly builds up to a sizable volume of power consumption, which leaves an impact on our monthly bill.

Switch off the mains when the device is not in use instead of leaving it in standby.

The next time you decide to throw something away, think freecycle- the worldwide network dedicated to reducing waste by trading stuff with other users for free! Simply log onto the Singapore Freecycle site and put a message for the item you're giving away and you'll be contacted by a fellow freecycler soon enough.

Or, if you're looking for something beyond your budget or just can't find around in the stores, you might also like to try putting up a request for it, or simply search from the messages of other freecyclers.

Freecycling - the better alternative to recycling and certainly a much better choice compared to just plain dumping of your items.
