Thrills and spills ruled the day at the National Junior Sprint Comp etition 2008 (NJSSC). Fifty nine secondary schools participated in the Competition. In teams of three, students were required to build simple yet effective cars using standard solar panels. They constructed the chassis, wheels and transmission using other materials.
Scientific and mathematical principles coupled with ingenuity and creativity was unleashed as students faced similar challenges as engineers in designing cars with ideal efficiency, weight and power. The competition provided a good avenue for students from different schools to compete and learn from each other.
The rainy weather did not dampen spirits as the team from St Andrew’s Secondary School emerged the winner. Besides fame and glory, the winners also get to bring home prizes which include a PSP for each member of the team and trophies.
