| One of the most bizarre of plant groups to have entered into cultivation till date, Amorphophallus species are definitely not for the faint hearted. With one of the largest amongst the genus being labeled as a 'Corpse flower' due to its evil smelling bloom and most of the smaller species also bearing putrid smelling flowers, it's difficult to fathom why anyone would want to grow such plants in their own backyard. However, there are growers specialising in this genus, proof that there is really more that meets the eye (or nose) to these fascinating aroids. For this talk, participants will learn about the different Amorphophallu sspecies as well as other interesting aspects of their biology. The speaker, who has been observing and growing these unique aroids for more than a decade, will also share tips on how to care for some of the more common species. |
Location: Singapore Botanic Gardens, Botany Centre, Function Hall (1st Storey)
