I'm no fan of Apple to be honest, I'm a firm supporter of the Windows platform and the AMD chipsets that I own. This mini mac, however, deserves a mention for taking a due consideration for the environment.
While most computers companies come out with faster computers with better performance in mind, Apple has taken the steps to create one that is sufficient for the average end user, yet having a considerable amount of environmental awareness going into the product.
For one, its idle power consumption is as low as a stunning 13 watts, which is quite amazing considering the fact that some processors (the processor is just part of a computer, there are still many parts that make up the whole) can't even match that number.
Then there is Apple's commitment to eliminating harmful toxins from their products which in essence, is a really good idea considering the amount of electronics we throw out from time to time.
Of course, this little mac is so small, that the packaging that comes with it plus the raw materials required to manufacture it easily is be much less than most computers. Whats more, the enclosure of the Mac mini uses recyclable materials to produce.
To top it all up, Apple has taken the time to publish an environmental report on the Mac mini which is downloadable here.
For a device made solely for profit, Apple has certainly done well to ensure the Mac mini is produced with careful thought about the environment. While I don't think this is exactly the powerhorse for the most futuristic games, the Mac mini certainly would work perfectly in a normal setting such as word documents, picture editing and some gaming. So if you're deciding on a computer for regular use and you're not a Windows zombie like I am, you might want to consider this little box as your next computer of choice.
